Open Collective and Open Source Collective
We manage the Wagtail project’s finances on Open Collective, a platform for open source projects to manage their budgets transparently. Our fiscal host is Open Source Collective. They hold Wagtail’s funds on our behalf in exchange for a fee on all income we receive. Our organization admins approve or reject expenses and invoices as needed.
2024
- $1000 (2x $500) of organization stipends as part of our Google Summer of Code 2023 participation
- $500 from DEFNA for Wagtail Space US
- Expense: $498.97 + tax for 100 recycled enamel pins for use as speaker gifts for Wagtail Space US and as rewards for our long-standing volunteers and any outstanding contributors the core team wishes to recognize.
2023
As of June 2023, our financial details are publicly visible on Open Collective.

- $1800 ($1200 + $600) of attendance stipends for Sage Abdullah and THibaud Colas to represent Wagtail at the Google Summer of Code Mentor Summit in 2023

- $8000 from Torchbox for our participation to Outreachy in December 2023, funding one intern
- $8000 from the Outreachy general fund for our participation to Outreachy in December 2023, funding one intern
2022
- TBC: spent some of the GSoC budget on equipment for Outreachy December 2022
- $8000 from Torchbox for our participation to Outreachy December 2022, funding one intern
- $16000 from the Outreachy general fund for our participation to Outreachy in December 2023, funding two interns
- $1500 (3x $500) of organization stipends as part of our Google Summer of Code 2022 participation, first paid to Torchbox, and then transferred to OpenCollective in October 2023.
2021
We took part in Google Summer of Code with two projects, under the Django organization umbrella. For those two projects, Google paid $1000 (2x $500) of organization stipends either to the DSF, or to our mentors.
