Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing

A software platform for distributed computing using volunteered computer resources

 Participate in scientific research

If you own a computer (Windows, Mac, Linux or Unix) you can help scientific research projects in many areas:

To participate in a project:
1) Visit the project's web site and create an account.
2) Download and run BOINC software.

You can participate in any or all projects -- the choice is up to you. It's a good idea to participate in several projects, because your computer will be busy even when one project has no work. You control the percentage of your computing power that goes to each project.

Create a BOINC project

If you're a scientist with a computationally-intensive task, you may be able to use BOINC.

A BOINC project can run on a single Linux server, and can give you computing power equivalent to a cluster with tens of thousands of nodes.
